Skoda Automotive India is preparing the second product under its India 2.0 project to add Skoda Kushaq to the company's lineup based on the MQB A0 IN platform. After launching the SUV, the company chose to launch its newest competitor in the sedan sector as a premium product for Skoda Rapid and compete with Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. We are talking about the new Skoda Slavia, all of which will add luster to our roads from February to March 2022, but before that, the company showed us all the glory of this car for the first time. Reservations for the Skoda Slavia are in progress, as it is ready to enter the highly competitive car market in India, but before that, we will tell you all about the new Skoda Slavia in detail.

Looking closely, Skoda Slavia is very similar to the European Skoda Fabia with a trunk lid. It also has striking similarities with the Skoda Virtus sold in the South American market. In terms of size, it is 4,541 mm long, 1,752 mm wide, 1,487 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,651 mm wide. Comparing these with other products in this segment, Skoda Slavia is the most spacious and should ideally translate into good internal shoulder and leg room. Compared with the upcoming Skoda Rapid, it is also longer, taller, wider, and has a longer wheelbase. In fact, Slavia is larger than the original Octavia, which is very popular in India. The 531 liters of luggage space is another icing on the cake.

Although it is a substitute for Skoda Rapid, Skoda Slavia has fresh design elements, gives unique characteristics to luxury cars, and breathes fresh air in the market segment with its modern style. On the front, its main elements are the hexagonal radiator grille and flat design headlights, giving people a glimpse of the future design elements that the Czech automaker will put into production for the Indian market. The daytime running lights use LED technology as a standard configuration, and the rear LED module forms part of the headlights in the car body. The daytime running lights are provided by a well-defined L-shaped LED light strip, and the LED components of the taillight part are also located in the trunk lid.

From the side, the Skoda Slavia is similar to the longer Skoda Fabia sold in the European market. The 16-inch alloy will be available in a top-spec version and as an option for the medium-spec version. The sloping roof line and the slightly upward sloping window line are very similar to the new Skoda Octavia and even the Skoda Superb sold in the international market. The character line highlights the length well. The iconic C-shaped taillights also look very attractive. A sufficient amount of chrome plating is used on the dashboard, fog lamp decoration, waistline, door handles, and even the rear. The wide tailgate and low loading threshold mean that the huge suitcase is easy to use. The rear bumper accentuates the width of Slavia and has thin black inserts that extend from one reflector to the other. To be honest, this doesn't seem excessive, and adds vitality to the overall appeal of the car.

In terms of interior, Skoda Slavia is still a typical Skoda, the unique horizontal line emphasizes the space, and the large 10-inch independent infotainment display has a modern feel. The digital instrument cluster with an 8-inch color display is equipped with top specifications, while the lower specifications are equipped with analog meters. The circular air-conditioning outlet also adds a touch of modernity. Skoda Slavia can also be equipped with leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. Other options include power sunroofs, auto-dimmable internal rearview mirrors or keyless entry. Needless to say, there is a mobile connection via Bluetooth and USB, and also because of the SmartLink function you can access the phone functions on the dashboard. There is also the option of wireless charging for mobile phones.

The rear seats are tilted and separated at a ratio of 60:40, so the cup holder has a specially designed bottom so that the beverage bottle can be opened easily. Rubber straps in the door compartment hold the items in place. Similar to Skoda Kushaq, Slavia comes standard with a multi-purpose compartment on the dashboard, and the practical recess on the dashboard is a market-specific feature.

Skoda Slavia attaches great importance to safety and can be equipped with up to six airbags or multiple collision braking systems. Slavia is equipped with ESC as standard, and is also equipped with XDS and XDS+. These auxiliary systems are part of the Electronic Differential System (EDS), which improves wheel traction. When the load on the inner wheel decreases when turning, it will react and slow down the wheels when the load decreases to prevent them from slipping. The brake has an automatic brake disc cleaning function. All headrests are adjustable in height, and the rear center seat is additionally equipped with a three-point safety belt. There are also many functions, some of which are optional, such as cruise control, and Hill-Hold control is included in the style decoration level. Skoda also provides light and rain sensors, which can automatically activate low beams or windshield wipers as needed. The rear parking sensor is standard, while high-end models are equipped with a rear-view camera. Tire pressure monitors are standard equipment for all models.

Skoda Slavia will share its power system with Skoda Kushaq. This means that Slavia will be equipped with a similar 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder engine and 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI engine, both of which are turbocharged gasoline engines. The former can produce 115bhp and 175Nm of peak torque, and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter. The larger 1.5-liter motor can produce 150bhp and 250Nm of peak torque, and is used in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DSG automatic device. We will drive this car soon and give you a detailed introduction to its performance and everything in between.

Skoda Automotive India stated that it is targeting the car market because it expects sales to grow by nearly 138% in the coming months. However, for a long time, the overall sales data for this particular market segment has not been the brightest. The company is also optimistic about sales, as its target after launch is about 3,000 units per month. With the influx of Skoda Slavia, the highly competitive market segment will definitely be affected, but it will be interesting to see the price point of the Czech automaker's upcoming high-end products in the Indian market.
