Now you can use your Android smartphone to unlock your BMW

BMW announced that Android smartphone users can now use digital keys to unlock their cars.

The digital key previously only available to iPhone users allows customers to lock and unlock their BMW by holding the phone close to the driver's door handle. Put the phone in the wireless charging bay of the car to start the engine. 

It is configured through the My BMW app and can be used as an option for some BMW models. In the next version, the key can be passed to five friends. 

This feature is available for Android phones starting from Samsung Galaxy S21 series and Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

BMW has not yet confirmed when the feature will be available to Android users in South Africa. Since 2018, iPhone users can use digital keys locally.
