News and analysis of Indian technology and entrepreneurial economy

Currently, the application is only available to Tata employees, and the company email ID is required to log in

The app seems to be in beta because it is full of bugs that can ruin the customer experience while scrolling

The app offers a variety of options from groceries and clothes to booking flights and hotel rooms

In the battle of Indian conglomerates trying to get a slice of the "super app" pie, Ratan Tata's Tata Digital seems to be leading the way in launching real apps and offering downloads.

Tata Digital recently launched a super app called TataNeu on Android and iOS platforms. The app is currently available for everyone to download. However, to log in, the user needs the Tata company email ID because it only applies to their employees. Therefore, before TataNeu is expected to be launched in early 2022, Tata seems to be testing the waters in Beta mode.

Inc42 managed to get into the app to understand and provide a sneak peek of it.

Therefore, once you click on the app for the first time, a preview of all the content in the app will be shown to the user. The app says: shopping, eating, traveling, etc.; earn rewards and simplify your payments. After clicking "Let's Get Started" at the bottom, the app will ask you to enter your phone number to share the OTP.

After entering OTP, a new screen will appear, which says "Welcome to Tata Digital"

The following states that the application is currently open to members of the "Tata Family".

However, once you enter your company email, it will take you to the main page of the application.

There are four options at the top of the application:

TataNeu allows users to browse and purchase different categories of goods, such as groceries, electronics, clothing, etc. TataNeu integrates BigBasket and Croma for groceries and electronics, respectively.

In addition, users can scroll through Westside's entire collection under the Fashion category, which is also part of Tata Enterprises. Through the application, users can even book Tata's high-end hotel chains, such as Taj and Vivanta. In the flight section, the application only allows users to book AirAsia tickets.

It is worth mentioning that there are multiple bugs in the application, which may harm the customer's browsing experience. Hope the company can solve this problem before the official release.

TataNeu also provides home food delivery services through Qmin, the food and food delivery platform of the Indian Hotel Corporation (IHCL).

It also provides rewards in the form of NeuCoin, which can be redeemed for future purchases.

Tata Digital, the digital division of Tata Sons Private Limited, was established in 2019, aiming to enter new business channels while directly serving Indian customers.

Last year, Tata Digital, led by Pratik Pal, has had a ripple effect in the country's emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem. The company has acquired a majority stake in the popular grocery delivery platform BigBasket and 1Mg, one of the leading pharmacy platforms. Tata Digital also invested in Cultfit, the country's first fitness unicorn, in an attempt to expand its range of services to users.

Mukesh Ambani (Mukesh Ambani) is the head of Reliance Industries, the country's wealthiest petrochemical group, and he is one of the strong competitors for this super app. Reliance Jio, the digital division of Reliance, backed by Facebook, Google, KKR, Silver Lake and other companies, has acquired Netmeds and Urban Ladder to strengthen its digital ecosystem.

The company's latest acquisition is JustDial, a 25-year-old Internet search and discovery platform that has access to a large number of experts, service providers and small retailers in most cities and towns in India.

Another new contestant is the Adani Group led by Gautam Adani. A few months ago, in a speech to Adani Digital Labs employees, Adani stated that the company must become the "Ferrari of digital applications."

Adani supports the statement, saying that the idea of creating a super application was formed in January of this year, when two members of the business team showed Adani a model version of the super application. "Seeing the demo unfolding, it took me less than 30 minutes to decide that we must become a participant in this field," Adani added.
