We often sneer at the term "wireless charging" because it is not true wireless charging. Although you may not need to insert anything into the iPhone or AirPods case, you still need to equip the charging device with a power cord. Ossia was recently named the winner of the 2022 CES Innovation Awards, and this will soon be changed.

Ossia developed the Cota Power Table, an innovative furniture that can receive and transmit power completely wirelessly. It relies on a patented technology called Cota Real Wireless Power, which can provide power in the air and at long distances without sight.

Cota Real Wireless Power uses technologies very similar to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Cota Power Receiver sends a beacon signal to find the transmitter. The transmitter hidden in the ceiling sends power back through the same path. This situation occurs 100 times per second, allowing the system to safely supply power to distant devices while in motion.

Each Cota Power Table has a receiver and four Qi pads hidden under the surface of the table. This allows four guests to charge up to two devices each. The Cota transmitter is installed above the ceiling and transmits radio frequency signals intelligently, avoiding obstacles that may be negatively affected by the emission. This means that when a person walks through the room, the Cota transmitter will adjust the direction of its beam. When necessary, it will reflect the signal back from the wall to prevent the signal from hitting people.

Ossia’s first market will be fast food restaurants, coffee shops, airports and other hotel businesses. Cota Power Table will allow these companies to provide Qi charging pads to their customers without the need for power outlets. The key to this technology is a radio frequency transmitter disguised as a ceiling.

Ossia does not make furniture itself. Instead, it obtains technology licenses and sells power components to other companies. Adoption will definitely depend on interest and cooperation, but Ossia hopes to revolutionize wireless charging. The company hopes to see its products expand to homes, cars, and even entire smart cities.
