OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A driver speeding through a construction zone Sunday lost control and sent their vehicle flying off the freeway.

A Michigan State Police sergeant in a marked cruiser saw a driver going 89 mph in a 60 mph construction zone the morning of Sunday, July 17, on westbound I-196 near 32nd Avenue in Ottawa County’s Jamestown Township, MSP said.

Dash camera footage shows the car losing control before flying off the road and crashing in a ditch in the pre-dawn darkness.

The driver survived and had minor injuries, police said.

Police said this is a reminder to slow down in construction zones, because crashes can be fatal.
