SAIC Maxus is now a Chinese subsidiary of LDV and plans to launch a new electric MPV called MIFA 9 in the UK at the end of next year. It will be a passenger variant with Peugeot e-Traveller and the upcoming Volkswagen ID. buzzing.

Sales are scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2022. Buyers can choose between seven-seater and eight-seater layouts and three specifications. However, unlike its hard-working competitors, MIFA 9 aims to target a higher-quality audience, offering luxury goods usually reserved for executive salons.

Buyers will get electrically adjustable seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions-the rear seats will even have a smartphone-like touch screen built into the armrests and retractable footrests, similar to the latest Mercedes S-Class car. However, we expect that some of these features will be reserved for top models.

In the front, there is a huge infotainment system that spans the width of the dashboard, including a digital instrument cluster and two multimedia displays-one for navigation instructions and one for entertaining the passengers in the front row.

There will also be complete driver assistance technology, including a system that can help keep the car in the center of a narrow lane, and a parking assistant that can monitor the 150 square meters of space around the vehicle for danger during maneuvering.

MIFA 9 is 5,270 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, 1,840 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 3,200 mm. This means that its size is roughly the same as the largest version of Citroen's dispatch panel truck, so there will be a lot of space inside. Maxus also equipped the MPV with sliding doors to help access the narrow parking lot.

It is powered by a 90kWh battery pack and a single electric motor with an output of 241bhp and a torque of 350Nm. Maxus stated that the system can provide a range of 323 miles, but it is worth noting that this number was recorded under the more lenient NEDC test procedure. We expect that once MPV is WLTP certified, it will decrease.

However, Maxus plans to expand beyond MPV. MIFA 9 is the first vehicle based on the company's new MIFA electric frame. Maxus stated that the frame can also be used for SUVs and pickup trucks. Therefore, in the near future, we can see new Chinese competitors such as Skoda Enyaq and Toyota Hilux.
