Stop the press! Mazda announced on Tuesday that the basic sports model of the 2022 Mazda CX-9 three-row SUV will start at US$36,505. This is $780 less than the 2021 Mazda CX-9 equipped with AWD. It is one of the few 2022 models, and the price of this model year has dropped; the other is the 2022 Mazda CX-5.

Mazda's clever pricing plan obscures the increase in mandatory destination fees from US$1,100 in 2021 to US$1,225 for the 2022 model. Pricing reductions start and stop from the basic model. Taking into account the standard all-wheel drive and higher destination fees, the prices of other trims have increased by at least $400. The elimination of front-wheel drive is the only change to Mazda's three-row crossover SUV before the redesign is expected in 2023 and the new naming convention for the Mazda CX-90.

Prior to this, this seven-seater SUV was equipped with a lower-priced Sport model. Standard features include a power driver's seat, keyless start and entry, heated front seats, Wi-Fi hotspot trial, and a 10.3-inch display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and active lane control. This is good luck for $36,505, including a destination of $1,225.

Each CX-9 is powered by a 2.5-liter turbo-4, equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The engine can produce 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque unless it is filled with 93 octane fuel to increase output to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft.

The 2022 Touring interior adds leather seats, electric passenger seats, keyless entry and electric lift doors. Its price is $38,665, which is $545 more than last year's Touring. A $2,080 premium package replaces the benches in the second row with two captain's chairs, turning the seven-seater into six-seater. Touring also has an audio upgrade, equipped with a 12-speaker Bose system, and is equipped with wireless smart phone charging, electric sunroof, satellite radio trial, third-row USB port and parking sensor.

To confuse the mid-range trim, there is a Touring Plus worth $42,885, which adds cooling front seats, 20-inch black alloy wheels and other black decorative elements.

The carbon fiber trim priced at US$44,805 will continue to be priced at US$525, adding heaters, red leather, aluminum trim, LED accent lighting, heated steering wheel, 7.0-inch digital instrument panel, and hands-free lift doors for the second-row captain’s seat And adaptive headlights. The unique gray exterior features bright black and chrome finishes.

Grand Touring is priced at US$45,665, the price has also increased by US$525, and the surround view camera system, navigation, silver alloy wheels and body-color rearview mirrors are added.

The signature trim followed the same price increase and topped the list with a price of $48,435. Nappa leather, wood trim and other luxurious finishes grace the model.

2022 CX-9 will go on sale this winter.
