Tesla's central display shows a huge performance improvement through its new AMD Ryzen chip. Hope it will make it more vehicles.

As we reported last week, Tesla has already started delivering Model Y Performance in China.

For Tesla followers outside of China, this is not exciting, because Model Y Performance has been produced for the North American market at the Fremont factory for many years.

However, the Model Y Performance in China is a new version manufactured at the Shanghai Super Factory, and some changes are expected.

We reported a news that was quickly discovered by new buyers: Tesla introduced AMD chips for the Media Computer (MCU).

It replaces the Intel Atom chip that currently powers most Tesla car central displays, except for Model Y Performance, which is now manufactured in China, and the new Model S and Model X, which are also powered by new AMD chips.

Now let’s first look at a side-by-side comparison of the new AMD chips and Tesla cars equipped with Intel chips:

They tested how long it took to fully load applications such as Youku and Bilibili in the two media centers.

As you can see, the new AMD chip shows a huge performance improvement, opening applications more than twice as fast.

They also tested Tesla's native navigation and map applications, which also showed great improvements in buffering speed and map loading time.

Excellent. We haven't talked about the speed of desktops and smartphones, but they are very close.

The question now is: Will Tesla transfer the new AMD chips to more vehicles?

Currently, it sounds like it is only in the new Model S/X cars produced in China's Model Y Performance and Fremont plants.

I think we will see them in the new car, but I don't know how long.

Tesla has stated that it is aware of the importance of computing power inside the car in the future, just like other personal computing industries, it will regularly update its computers to improve performance.

This applies to both driver assistance/autopilot systems and media centers.
