After the AWD crossover was unveiled at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru finally shared more information about its first electric car, Solterra. As expected, Solterra has many similarities with Toyota's upcoming bZ4X crossover. This should not be surprising, because the two automakers have jointly developed the e-TNGA power system at the core of two electric vehicles.

Subaru’s crossover is equipped with a 71.4 kWh lithium battery, and the automaker estimates that it can provide 220 miles of range on a single charge. Subaru said that using a DC fast charger can deplete Solterra's battery from 80% of its power in an hour. The dual motors can output 215 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque.

Solterra will be equipped with Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system and X mode function. The latter provides better traction in off-road conditions. In the cabin, there is a 12.3-inch touch screen display that can be used with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Solterra will also mark the debut of several new Subaru safety technologies. First, the company stated that it has a 360-degree "look around" camera that can provide better situational awareness. Secondly, there is a function called exit assist. If a vehicle is approaching and they will get off, it will warn your passengers.

Subaru will start selling the 2023 Solterra in the middle of 2022. The automaker has not announced the final pricing of the crossover, but it is expected to start at around US$39,000.
