With 2021 coming to an end, everyone's eyes have turned to early 2022 to focus on Apple's next product release. Here is what you can see from Apple after the holidays.

Apple's product catalog has gone through another eventful year. Although the global pandemic continues, there are still new product releases.

Apple introduced many major updates and expected updates in 2021, including the 24-inch iMac, the addition of M1 to the iPad Pro series, and the launch of a new product, AirTag. There are also some more predictable changes, including the annual update of the iPhone 13, the redesigned iPad and MacBook Pro series.

As time goes to 2021, the rumor factory's attention shifts to 2022 and the products that Apple may launch next.

The following is what AppleInsider predicts that Apple will launch after the end of the year.

This question has two parts to answer: what might still happen in 2021, and what might happen in early 2022.

Given that it is December, it is extremely unlikely that Apple will launch a new product later this year. After the fall product launch, Apple usually avoids launching any major products in December.

The most recent December was AirPods Max, which issued a press release on December 15. Prior to this, Apple had pre-ordered its Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR in December 2019, although they were both launched earlier this year.

The iMac Pro and the first-generation AirPods were launched in December 2017 and 2016, respectively, but were announced earlier this year. Even the 2013 Mac Pro that went on sale in December of that year was half a year ahead of schedule.

If Apple has a product that is rumored to be released in 2021, it is very likely that there will be a no-event release at some point. Due to rumors about December, the factory was quiet, so it seems extremely unlikely to happen.

Speaking of early 2022, the earliest time that Apple events are most likely to be held is March. From 2014 to 2020, there will be product releases in March every year, excluding 2021. This seems to be a very mature model, although it may not necessarily be an event that occurred at that time.

Apple sometimes launches products before then, but this is rare. After the release of HomePod in February 2018, the product experienced a lot of delays, so this is not important.

Can Apple launch products earlier than expected in 2022? certainly. This is unlikely, but everything is possible.

Among the original M1-based Macs, the MacBook Air was launched for a year in the fall, which allowed Apple to upgrade without appearing too early in its product life cycle. However, although there are new MacBook Pro models in the fall, the MacBook Air is not updated, and there are rumors that it will be released in 2022 instead of 2021.

In July, a report stated that Apple will wait until the first half of 2022 to release the "M2" or "M1X" MacBook Air. The "M2" claim was supported by the second leaker and the timetable for early 2022.

In view of the introduction of M1 Pro and M1 Max chip variants, they may be used in new models.

It is said that Apple Silicon’s roadmap surfaced in November, claiming that the new chip will be launched soon, code-named Ibiza, Lobos and Palma. It is said to be the second-generation chip of the chip family, which will contain two chips instead of one and use an upgraded 5nm process.

At the same time, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in July and August that MacBook Air is expected to be launched in 2022.

The renderings released in May seem to indicate that the redesign is in progress, with a slim, wedge-free design that can barely accommodate the USB-C port on the side. It also claims to have a variety of colors, with a white bezel and keys.

A new display is also proposed, equipped with a mini LED backlight.

As the new displays used in the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro are notched, Apple is likely to use the same method on the MacBook Air.

As you might expect, the renderings released in October show the appearance of the updated MacBook Air, with gaps in the design. It also claims to have two Thunderbolt 4 ports, as well as a headphone jack and a MagSafe 3 connection.

A report in October suggested that MacBook Air will be equipped with M2, as well as MagSafe and 1080p cameras.

According to a report from Guo on September 27, Apple will begin mass production of the updated MacBook Air in the middle of 2022, which may push the update to later this year.

As one of the three products initially released by Apple Silicon, Mac mini also did not undergo any redesign before release. For the first refresh, it seems that it might receive the update.

The rendering from May claims that it will be a thinner device, with the round base replaced by a rubber strip and the rear vents moved to the base. The aluminum chassis will have a "plexiglass-like" top panel, and touted a variety of colors.

It is said that the port selection on the back consists of four USB 4-Thunderbolt 3 ports, a pair of USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI and a magnetic circular power connector, taken from a 24-inch iMac. Internally, the chip will be updated from M1 to "M1X" or "M2".

A report on August 22 stated that a high-performance Mac mini using the "M1X" will be available soon, aiming to remove the Intel-based version that Apple is still selling from the product line. However, apart from the updated design and the use of "more ports", few details are provided in the report.

The release date is unknown, but Apple is likely to launch this model in early 2022, possibly at the same time as the MacBook Air update.

Since Apple provides two sizes of iMacs for its Intel series, it is very reasonable for Apple to provide a 24-inch iMac replacement for its Apple Silicon series, which replaces the 27-inch iMac.

Before the 24-inch model was released, there were rumors in April that Apple was developing a version with a screen larger than 27 inches. However, the rumor came from a leaker who is said to have "retired" from "business".

In July, another rumor mentioned a larger model without revealing details. Later in the same month, there were rumors of a "high-end iMac" and it was launched in 2022 because Apple "does not want their devices to compete for attention."

There is a problem in the rumors, because it is not the only iMac that may be on the road.

In October, the leaker "Dylandkt" posted on Twitter that "iMac (Pro)" will be launched in the first half of 2022. The leaker stated that it will be equipped with ProMotion and Mini LEDs in the display, as well as dark bezels and "a design similar to iMac 24 and Pro Display XDR,"

The specification list also includes 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage space, the use of M1 Pro and M1 Max chips in the basic model, HDMI and USB-C and HDMI ports, Ethernet on the power block, and possible face ID.

It is estimated that the basic configuration of the model may start from "over $2,000".

Regardless of whether Apple is launching a larger-screen iMac or an iMac Pro, there seems to be a product with a larger display that will be launched soon, so it is likely to be launched in early 2022.

iPhone SE was launched separately from the main release for the first time, and iPhone SE always has the opportunity to be updated at different times of the year.

In April, DisplaySearch's display analyst Ross Young posted a leak on Twitter, claiming that the iPhone SE in 2022 will maintain a 4.7-inch display and will be equipped with 5G connectivity.

By June, Guo Mingchi joined the conversation and reiterated that the 5G iPhone SE will be launched in the first half of 2022. The analyst stated that it will use the same form factor as the second-generation model and will become "the cheapest 5G iPhone model ever."

A supply chain report from Digitimes Asia in July supports the claim to be launched in the first half of 2022. In the same month, Nikkei Asia also said the same thing, increasing the use of A15 chip and 5G.

MacOtakara sources said in October that the third-generation model will be launched in the spring of 2022, using the same chassis but equipped with 5G and A15 chips.

Although analyst Rose Young did not really add any new specifications in his October report, he claimed that the model will get a new name "iPhone SE Plus" even if the screen size is the same.

The Chinese website MyDrivers said in October that these changes will be more obvious with the use of the side-mounted Touch ID sensor after the iPhone XR. This will also be the last LCD iPhone produced.

In order to complete its Apple Silicon transformation within a two-year timetable set by the company itself, it must deal with the last major Mac category for which the chip has not yet landed. That will be Mac Pro.

As for what form and when it will take, the rumor factory will not provide that much in late 2021. If there are more explicit leaks and rumors, its confidence will be higher than "low".

Based on an early leak, I rendered something that might be a Mac Pro, and regarded it as a smaller G4 Cube-style device with a computing unit at the bottom and a radiator at the top. However, since then, there have been no statements regarding physical characteristics or even specifications other than the chips that will allegedly be used.

In May of this year, Bloomberg said that Apple will use Apple Silicon chips that are two or four times more powerful than M1 Pro and M1 Max, using 20 or 40 computing cores. Accompanying these high core counts are similar high-core GPUs, with 64-core and 128-core options.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in August that the Mac Pro will arrive sometime in 2022. In addition, Apple will "barely reach the two-year timetable."

Given that Apple announced its first M1 Mac in November 2020, this allows Apple to continue as planned until November 2022. In order to "barely reach", we will launch later this year, not in the early stages.

The first issue of Gurman's December newsletter doubled with the launch of the Mac Pro in 2022, but did not provide much additional work.

The fly in the ointment is the mid-year report that Apple is considering continuing to use Intel in the Mac Pro. In June, a reference in the Xcode 13 beta version pointed to Intel Ice Lake Xeon processor support. By July, the leaker claimed that Apple will use Xeon W-3300 series CPUs.

Apple can continue to provide Intel Mac Pro and Apple Silicon to appease a small number of customers who need it, which seems reasonable, but it seems to run counter to the transition itself.

With or without the help of the rumor factory, Apple can relatively easily make educated guesses about the products that may be released in the next few months. The cadence of releases throughout the year provides enough patterns to determine when it can be released. Keep in mind that Apple likes to release most of its major devices in a cycle of about a year.

Therefore, we can confidently say that in early 2022, you may not see much until March or April. Although rumors about the release of the iPhone 14 have begun to surface, it is certain that the iPhone will not undergo a major update before the fall.

There are also quite a few products that may be launched in the future, possibly later than earlier. What we are talking about here are the frequently rumored "Apple Car" and "Apple Glass", as well as Apple AR headsets.

Although it is doubtful whether the latter product will enter Apple's release list before the summer, it is always possible for Apple to make a sudden statement for them.

How about iPad Air?

Since Apple may cancel the option to add RAM to their system, how about throwing a bone at us and letting us use one or two M2 SSD slots? SSD is now developing rapidly. The last one I bought (for my PS5, it has an M2 slot) read bandwidth is slightly higher than 6 GB per second. If faster and larger SSDs can be used for upgrades in the future, Macs will last longer because they become available and more affordable. The M2 SSD is about as small as a RAM stick and is even easier to install. Most users can do it with a screwdriver.

For Mac Pro, it doesn't make sense to adjust its size. Apple only introduced a new super modular fMac Pro chassis design a few years ago. Ideally, people who own a modern Mac Pro can replace their Intel motherboard and replace it with an Apple Silicon motherboard. Some people may want to choose to start x86 or start Apple Silicon. This is how the Mac Pro case is specifically designed for IMO.

The second power module and the first MPX unit with ports will sneak into the window on the back. The Extra case option is just a shorter version and only requires one module.

I have been thinking about waiting for the second-generation M-series iPad Pro. However, if they will not arrive until autumn, or even the 23-year sprint, I think I will have to jump up.
