The Institute of Navigation will host the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Navigation Webinar from Earth to Jezero Crater on Tuesday, March 23, at 1:30 pm Eastern Time.

The webinar will be hosted by a navigation engineer, leader of the Mars 2020 navigation team, and Gerhard Kruizinga of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and hosted by Frank van Diggelen, President of ION.

Van Diglen said: "We are honored to have Gerhard Kruizinga, the head of the navigation team for this historic mission, present his first-hand information about the safe landing of NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover from the launch pad to Mars."

Accurate landing requires very high-precision interplanetary navigation and adaptation to the requirements of entering and guiding targets, planetary protection requirements, and propellant distribution for trajectory correction maneuvers.

The main navigation goal is to predict the accuracy of the trajectory when the atmosphere enters, so as to meet the safe landing requirements of the entry descent and landing system. This presentation discusses plans to meet all navigation requirements and actual navigation performance during cruise and landing.
