Hayle Emergency Services Community Station was thrust into action yesterday afternoon (Friday) when the fire crew responded to a 999 call at 4.36pm reporting a vehicle on fire in the town's harbour car park. The car was found to be well alight on the arrival of the crew.

The blaze was extinguished by two firefighters using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera.

Hayle's Emergency Services Community Station is the first in Cornwall to co-locate fire and rescue, police and ambulance. This is to improve partnership working and integration between the services in a shared facility.

The station was the first in the UK to pilot a new Tri-Service Safety Officer role, which has some police powers as well as being a co-responder for the ambulance service, an anti-social case worker and an on-call firefighter.
