Peugeot 2008 vs Ford Puma-which is the best? | Our Cars | Honest John

The Ford Puma is the best-selling small SUV in the UK. This may be the number one reason why more people do not buy Peugeot 2008.

Since its relaunch in 2020, Puma has become a huge success for Ford. In fact, Puma is expected to replace Fiesta as Ford's best-selling car in the UK-something that has never happened since the Focus became number one in 2008 (appropriately).

It is cheaper to buy, standard equipment is better, and the style is bright. Puma posed some serious questions about 2008. Puma is also known for better driving, and its 456-liter trunk is more practical than the 434-liter Peugeot you get-thanks to Ford’s “megabox” design, it takes advantage of the space under the trunk floor.

After driving two cars, I can confirm that Puma is more attractive when driving. Not only is the steering sharper and the weight better, but the Puma also feels firmer, which means it won't roll into the corners like a soft spring Peugeot. The 1.0 EcoBoost engine is also an upgraded version, thanks to its mild hybrid technology, which provides a more sensitive throttle response.

Generally, when the car drives more agile, it means your fuel economy will be worse. But this should not be the case with Puma. The 125PS version of the 1.0 mHEV car promises 48.7-49.6mpg, while the powerful 155PS is advertised as 47.9-48.7mpg. This exceeds the 2008 advertising figures.

In all fairness, Peugeot 2008's interior workmanship is much better than Puma. The material is more luxurious and the seat is more comfortable. But Ford once again has the advantage here, because the cabin is easier to use physical buttons for heating and ventilation operations. You can also get higher value. The medium-sized Puma ST-Line comes standard with navigation, heated windshield and driver's seat waist adjustment device.

As you can feel, the comparison between Ford and Peugeot was not so good in 2008. When you compare prices, the situation does not really get better. The Puma 1.0 mHEV 125PS car with ST-Line trim starts at £25,885-£345 less than the 2008 Allure Premium.

Nevertheless, Peugeot 2008 is still a good car. In fact, this is a very good one. However, on the whole, Puma has an advantage over its French rivals. If I were a buyer, I might not leave the Ford showroom without paying a large deposit for Puma. Sorry Peugeot...
